Protect Your Property This Fall

As the weather cools down, October is a useful time for homeowners and business owners to prepare their properties for colder months. Preventive maintenance can reduce the risk of avoidable damage, but it cannot eliminate every covered loss.

Fall Property Maintenance Checklist

  • Clean leaves and debris from gutters and downspouts.
  • Check the roof for missing, loose, or damaged shingles.
  • Inspect windows and doors for gaps or leaks.
  • Have heating systems, fireplaces, and chimneys inspected.
  • Test smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
  • Disconnect outdoor hoses and prepare exterior plumbing for colder temperatures.
  • Trim branches that could fall during severe weather.

Fire Safety in Cooler Weather

Keep flammable materials away from heat sources, check electrical cords and outlets, never leave candles unattended, and make sure your family or employees know the fire escape plan.
